The Global Impact Internship is a six-week remote experience where college students use AI, research, curriculum design, and professional storytelling to support active community-development work. In the first cohort, interns produced stakeholder-ready projects for clean-energy workforce development, equitable technical training, and a community-centered innovation hub.
First cohort: three completed projects
Students were not observers. They contributed research and practical deliverables designed to support projects in Chicago, South Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
Greater Englewood Clean Energy Workforce
Curriculum + workforce researchInterns created a research-based framework for renewable-energy workforce development, mapping opportunities across solar, wind, energy storage, grid modernization, green hydrogen, and clean-energy services.
The project translated employer research into a practical training sequence—from electrical safety and energy fundamentals to solar installation, battery systems, energy monitoring, capstone work, internships, and certification preparation.
MISLA: Data, Research & Technical Training
Research + curriculum designFor MISLA, interns examined barriers that limit access to research training and technical opportunity in South Los Angeles, including unequal school resources, distance from institutions, transportation challenges, and limited STEM infrastructure.
They also developed beginner-friendly Data and Business Intelligence learning modules that connect technical skills with everyday community questions, helping learners build datasets, recognize patterns, create dashboards, and communicate evidence-based recommendations.
Freedom West Innovation Center
Workforce pathways + stakeholder briefInterns developed curriculum, workforce, and stakeholder materials for a proposed STEM, entrepreneurship, and AI innovation center serving San Francisco’s historic Fillmore District.
Their work organized accessible career pathways in Technology & AI, Entrepreneurship, Green Energy & Skilled Trades, and Creative & Media Arts—supported by stackable credentials, employer connections, devices, and other wraparound resources.
What the internship makes possible
Students leave with more than exposure to AI tools. They build a portfolio of evidence-based work created for real community initiatives and learn how to communicate ideas to professional audiences.
